Meeting with Khalid Soufiani
A delegation of the League of Arab Students in Europe led by Yassine Channouf and Brahim Harchaoui met the high-ranking Arab nationalist Khalid Soufiani in Brussels. This former chairman of the Arab National Congress is a prominent lawyer and activist in Morocco, known for his staunch defense of the Palestinian cause and fierce opposition to normalization with the Zionist entity Israel. One of his most prominent case was his filing of a complaint against the Zionist war criminal of Moroccan descent Amir Peretz. Recently, he launched a campaign in order to prevent the participation of another Zionist war criminal, Tzipi Livni, in a conference in Tanger, Morocco.
In the framework of building bridges between the Arab diaspora and the Homeland we had a two-day meeting with Mr. Soufiani. We discussed a range of issues pertaining the challenges and needs of the Arab diaspora in Europe. The core issues we discussed were the possibilities of cooperation between the civil society and other actors in the Arab world and the Arab diaspora. The creation of a structural and an organic bond is a necessary way to preserve the Arab identity and to avoid alienation and assimilation. In this regard, we consider this meeting to be a fruitful one.
